Staying Connected During the Holidays

Social connection is an important part of healthy aging. Meaningful relationships can support emotional well-being, reduce feelings of loneliness, and encourage seniors to remain active and engaged.

Here are five simple ways to support an older adult this holiday season:

1. Make the call. Reach out to a senior you haven't spoken with recently. A few minutes of conversation can brighten someone's day.

2. Share a meal. Invite an older neighbor, relative, or friend to join your Thanksgiving celebration.

3. Listen to their stories. Ask about their favorite holiday traditions or childhood memories. Their experiences are treasures worth preserving.

4. Offer a helping hand. Assist with grocery shopping, holiday decorating, or transportation when appropriate.

5. Include them in activities. A game of cards, holiday music, or a simple conversation can create meaningful moments.

Remember, caring doesn't always require a grand gesture. Often, it's the smallest acts of kindness that leave the greatest impression.
